Trikes and skoogs day!!

On Thursday the 19th March a presentation was made by R.W Bro Peter Connolly PGM for the Mark Province of West Lancashire to the pupils of Highfurlong School in Blackpool of two trikes and two skoogs.
Highfurlong School is a co-educational community special school, catering for pupils aged 2-19 with a wide range of special educational needs.  These include physical disabilities; profound and multiple learning difficulties (including multi-sensory impairment and visual/hearing impairment); speech, language and communication difficulties; moderate learning difficulties and autistic spectrum disorders and is located on Blackpool Old Road in Blackpool.
The donated trikes will enable pupils with a disability to enjoy the chance of riding a bike maybe for the first time, and the skoogs which are a box of tricks which make the sounds of a musical instrument will enhance learning for children who may not be able to play conventional instruments.
The presentation was also attended by various representatives from Bispham with Norbreck Mark Lodge including the master Bro Peter Maxwell, W.Bro Ray Lamb and W.Bro John Powell. Also present were V W.Bro Michael Clarke Assistant PGM and W.Bro Mike Casey representing the West Lancashire Mark Province.
The presentation was made by W.Bro Peter to a whole school assembly and the Headteacher Mrs Rosie Sycamore was delighted to accept on behalf of the school. Mrs Joan Lamb as Chair of Governors also thanked the Mark Masons for their wonderful donation on behalf of governors of the school.

Everyone was then invited to the coffee shop within school to enjoy refreshments prepared and served by the pupils and then given a guided tour of the school.

What comes next for Highfurlong………………………..

Highfurlong School is currently being re-built under the Priority Schools Building Programme financed by the Education Funding Agency replacing the 1960s building which is no longer fit for purpose.

The move to the new school is currently expected to take place in October 2015 and although the new building will be provided, the contents and equipment have to be either transferred from the old building or replaced by the school. No funding is available for this from either central or local government. Highfurlong launched an appeal last year to raise funds for new equipment for the school and continue to work hard to raise monies to provide this new equipment and the school are seeking donations from organisations such as the Masons towards this huge project.

If you would like to be involved in helping children at Highfurlong School further information can be obtained from the Headteacher Mrs Rosie Sycamore at Highfurlong School at rosie.sycamore@highfurlong.blackpool.sch.uk or via the chair of Governors Mrs Joan Lamb on 01253 312053
